This is the ninth post in this series on the Ten Commandments
I was inspired by the book “The Tender Commandments” by Ron Mehl
The Eighth Commandment
“Thou Shall Not Steal”
I like my title
But, I never stole anything!!!
It just kind of popped into my head when I got ready to write this
Did you know most most business figure for theft in their pricing?
I had a friend who took hotel management
She said hotels figure 10 – 12% just to cover theft
WOW!!!!
I’m guilty!!!!!
I’ve had a few hotel towels around the house
(Well at those prices I should get something!!!)
I once worked as a Rural Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service
We would have some training every once in a while
Or at conventions we would have a workshop
Our state shop steward would be in charge of some of these workshops or trainings
She would always tell us
“If it isn’t yours don’t take it!!”
Simple
Yet I know few postal workers who lost good jobs
They took things that didn’t belong to them
I’m not even going to go into the banks and financial experts who have stolen millions
Some will read this and think
“Well (title) I never stole anything”
What did our shop steward say
“If it isn’t yours, don’t take it”
I know this seems small
But!!!
Listen up
Did you ever take a paper clip or rubber band from work??
Couple sheets of paper
or a pen or pencil?
an envelope
“Well that’s not much”
My employer can certainly afford it
Can they?
Let’s say you work for a big company
One that can afford it
They all take a couple of sheets of paper
That’s 200,000 sheets of paper
What if they did it ever month
or ever week
Wow
Now that adds up
There are other ways to steal too
From ourselves and our employers
In most jobs you get paid for 8hrs a day
But how much time do you really give your employer?
In your business
Do you give your customer a good value for their dollar
When we don’t do our best
Or give our best
In what ever we are doing
We are really stealing from ourselves
Our lives would be so much richer if we would give our best and be our best no matter what we are doing.
